About The Position

Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager and/or Correctional Lieutenant III at a multi-custody male correctional facility, the primary duties of the Correctional Sergeant III includes, but is not limited to, providing first-line supervision to Correctional Officer III’s in a close-custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing. This role involves assigning lower level custody staff to post(s), overseeing officer activities and performance, and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained. Additionally, the position is responsible for arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. Other duties as needed may also be assigned.

Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three years of experience as a Correctional Officer, OR two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
