About The Position

The Correctional Sergeant III reports to the Correctional Associate Warden of Operations and supervises subordinate officers and their assigned tasks concerning the custody and welfare of male offenders at a minimum, medium, and close custody state correctional facility. The position works rotating shifts and is designated as mandatory during adverse weather events, requiring the employee to report to work or stay over. The role provides 24/7 staffing coverage and includes supervision of officers assigned to particular areas or posts.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer; or two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
Pass a criminal background check.
Produce a negative drug screening result.
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
Possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Conduct shift line-ups, make shift assignments, and inspect personnel to determine whether they are physically and mentally capable of assuming assigned posts.
Complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
Account for persons and funds and ensure assigned equipment is operationally ready.
Perform duty assignments at the defined level of work and ensure 24/7 staffing coverage.
Supervise and assign subordinate officers to particular areas or posts, overseeing their activities related to the custody and welfare of offenders.
