About The Position

This position is located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Avery County. Mountain View is a medium custody male facility that houses approximately 908 offenders. We offer a variety of educational classes and programs to promote offender rehabilitation. Work in this class involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer II’s in medium-custody facilities or institutions, increasing the custody and security coverage.

Requirements

• High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
• Pass a criminal background check
• Produce a negative drug screening result
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
• Possess a valid driver’s license
