About The Position

This position is located at Carteret Correctional Center and involves first-line supervision of Correctional Officers in minimum-custody facilities, enhancing custody and security coverage. The role includes assigning lower-level custody staff to specific areas or posts, overseeing officer activities and performance, and ensuring the custody, security, and welfare of inmates. Responsibilities also involve arranging work schedules for shift coverage, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring adherence to rules and regulations. At times, the position may serve as the highest-ranking custody staff on the grounds or as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Positions report to a Correctional Lieutenant I and/or a Correctional Assistant Superintendent.

Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
Pass a criminal background check.
Produce a negative drug screening result.
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
