About The Position

This Position is located at Greene Correctional Institution in Greene County, NC. This position is responsible for the Development, Implementation, Maintenance and Supervision of significant correction programs at a minimum custody correctional facility. It involves coordinating offenders' activities and supporting security operations, as well as coordinating volunteer programs, recreation, and supportive counseling. There is considerable contact with community agencies to enrich programs and establish new programs, and work with contract agencies/service providers to ensure effective delivery of programming. The role requires working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive, and the ability to defend oneself against attack by a violent person. Effective communication in verbal and written form with staff, offenders, and the general public is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques.
  • Knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
  • Experience with Prisons’ policies and procedures, offender classification, and correctional programs.
