About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Well Being Services, is responsible for advancing programs and framework within Adventure Plex, through outreach, implementation and coordination of activities, and directly working with school, parent and community groups to integrate programs and framework into systems and culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education, health promotion, or public health, or relevant health-related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience developing and coordinating programs, working with or supervising teams and/or volunteers, community organizing, outreach and promotion or related experience required.
  • Experience in public health and health promotion, program development, and working with children, teachers and parents in a school-based setting in a professional or leadership role.
  • Knowledge of the core functions of public health as well as California education code.
  • Knowledge of contract process, including initiating, preparing and executing all related documents and communications.
  • Ability to actively engage communities and organizations in a program/project
  • Ability to speak to a variety of different groups individually or simultaneously (e.g., parents, school administrators, community stakeholders, physicians, etc.)
  • Adaptable and flexible attitude and skillset to meet the variety of demands within and outside of the job description, as applicable.
  • Excellent organizational, project and program management skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of the computer, including Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and ability to learn and operate software programs and databases.
  • Strong writing skills including technical, academic and colloquial styles.
  • Ability to edit, proofread and provide constructive feedback to varying levels of stakeholders within and outside of the organization.
  • First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) methods; appropriate safety precautions and procedures; simple record keeping procedures.
  • Must be able to successfully pass background check, tuberculosis test and drug screen.
  • Must have a valid Class C California driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Employee Use of Automobiles Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for revenue generation for AdventurePlex programs. Tracks metrics against its schedule, budget and performance objectives; determines future program offerings and reports status to Director of Well-Being Services on a regular basis and executive staff on an as needed basis.
  • Supervises staff responsible for programs to include hiring, assignment and workload delegation, training, performance management (to include annual performance review process), staff development, staff reinforcement of workplace rules and guidelines, and timekeeping procedures; handles any issues or concerns promptly and effectively. Regularly serves as Adventure Plex manager on duty.
  • Maintains relationships with vendors and independent contractors (e.g., YMCA) that support programs including oversight of vendor/IS agreements and safety compliance.
  • Leads the development of programming for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Identifies and coordinates with stakeholders and subject matter experts. Supports the implementation of programming across community settings and Adventure Plex.
  • Develops and implements seasonal camps. Evaluates programming and makes program modifications/additions/improvements as needed. Coordinates staff scheduling; procedure development; hiring, orientating, training, coaching, and oversight and work direction of Camp Staff with Adventure Plex Supervisor.
  • Manages, supports and coordinates interns, including recruitment, onboarding and maintenance throughout their time at BCHD.
  • Develops evaluation process including recording, tracking and reporting out of program metrics to establish benchmarking. Researches latest evidence-based programs, best practices, health demographics and school trends to make recommendations for program improvements. Produces policy briefs, reports and website content on youth health topics.
  • Collaborates with the Communications department to develop and contribute to promotion and outreach activities (e.g., attend events, contribute to newsletters, collateral or other materials, updates information as necessary for AdventurePlex website and coordinates customer feedback mechanisms such as satisfaction surveys).
  • Assists director with tracking of annual budget for the assigned program areas. Initiates, prepares, supports and tracks department contracts and grants.
  • Represents BCHD at meetings, speaking engagements, community events, etc.
  • Exhibits clear understanding of the history, mission, and vision and serves as an ambassador of Beach Cities Health District.
  • Exemplifies BCHD’s core values of compassion, integrity, accountability, and excellence in every interaction with staff, volunteers and members and the public.
  • Performs assigned training, duties, and work schedule as a disaster service worker on behalf of BCHD.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
