About The Position

The incumbent in this position is responsible for directing and supervising correctional probation officers, senior officers, specialists, support staff supervisors, and for managing the operation of a large size, independent office. This position shall monitor the daily activities of correctional probation officers, senior officers, specialists, and supervisors to ensure investigative and supervision services are provided in accordance with Florida statutes, department rules, and the probation and parole manual of procedures.

Requirements

  • Certified in accordance with Florida Statutes 943.13
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Possess a valid driver’s license as a condition of employment in accordance with 33-208.402, Florida Administrative Code and Section 322.03(3) Florida Statutes.
  • Ability to work independently and/or under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to describe facts and events accurately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of probation and parole and/or offender classification functions and procedures.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system and court procedures.
  • Knowledge of techniques for advising, interviewing, and counseling.
  • Ability to assist offenders in solving problems.

Responsibilities

  • Directing and supervising correctional probation officers, senior officers, specialists, support staff supervisors, and managing the operation of a large size, independent office.
  • Monitoring the daily activities of correctional probation officers, senior officers, specialists, and supervisors to ensure investigative and supervision services are provided in accordance with Florida statutes, department rules, and the probation and parole manual of procedures.
  • Communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work.
  • Recommending hire, transfer, promotion, suspension, discharge, assignment, reward, or discipline of subordinate employees.
  • Reviewing and approving correspondence and investigations including presentence, post-sentence, other state, pre-parole, special, and other investigations for the courts, parole commission, the department, and other states for quality, accuracy, and content per departmental policy and procedure.
  • Reviewing and approving violation reports, affidavits, and warrant requests for offenders for quality, accuracy, and content per departmental policy and procedure.
  • Reviewing and approving entries into the court ordered payment system and management information system and requests for information from NCIC/FCIC and DHSMV.
  • Distributing and reviewing workloads to ensure consistent and uniform enforcement of supervision order.
  • Assigning new and transfer offenders for supervision and assigning investigations.
  • Monitoring assignments for equitable distribution.
  • Reviewing compliance with field supervision standards in accordance with supervision protocol.
  • Conducting initial, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, special, and pre-termination case reviews on individual offenders, as required.
  • Following up as needed.
  • Reviewing and approving recommendations for early termination of supervision and reduction of sentence.
  • Accompanying staff in the field as mandated to monitor compliance with field safety procedures and supervision duties.
  • Monitoring supervisory staff compliance with department policies and procedures as they relate to the supervision of officers and specialists.
  • Supervising the implementation of policies and procedures established by the department and ensuring the satisfactory delivery of services.
  • Ensuring that management review standards are consistently met.
  • Holding regular staff meetings.
  • Disseminating new policies and procedures to staff as appropriate.
  • Evaluating employee performance and developing performance improvement plans as necessary.
  • Counseling, motivating, and guiding staff in the daily performance of their duties.
  • Ensuring staff compliance with mandated training requirements.
  • Reviewing and approving requests for leave, ensuring adequate office and workload coverage.
  • Reviewing and approving travel vouchers.
  • Interviewing applicants for employment and conducting background investigations on prospective employees.
  • Maintaining liaison with the judiciary, prosecutors, public defenders, law enforcement, treatment providers, non-profit service agencies, governmental agencies, other facilities, offices and bureaus of the department, and other criminal justice representatives.
  • Exhibiting appropriate demeanor and knowledge as a representative of the department.
  • Demonstrating sensitivity to public and victim needs, concerns, and complaints and taking appropriate, prompt action as required.
  • Corresponding and negotiating with office landlord on issues relating to office lease and maintenance.
  • Implementing and following procedures relating to the operation of office equipment and maintaining current inventory.
  • Ensuring staff compliance with office security, safety, and appearance standards.
  • Processing vendor invoices, distributing warrants to vendors, and assisting in the review of vendor invoices in compliance with Florida statutes.
  • Managing office budget for office supplies and equipment.
  • Directing the intake process to ensure notification and assignment of an offender placed under supervision or received for investigation are handled effectively and efficiently so that all assignments are detected and processed.
  • Supervising storage of inactive files to include sealing, expunging, and destruction as required.
  • Managing and supervising offenders as required in an officer’s absence.
  • Conducting investigations as required when workload demands, or special circumstances deem it necessary.
  • Performing court-ordered payment receipting duties in the absence of the designated receipt writer.
  • Verifying monetary collections and making bank deposits.
  • Monitoring the court-ordered payment system exceptions as required.
  • Handling administrative duties as assigned.
  • Assisting in the absence of the Correctional Probation Deputy Administrator.
  • Overseeing specialized programs or contracts.
  • Attending and delivering training relating to the duties and responsibilities of the job, for career development and to remain knowledgeable about new technology.
