About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Corrections is seeking motivated individuals to serve as Correctional Officers. Officers work as part of a team to maintain safety and control of offenders within correctional institutions. This is a part-time position of less than 100 hours per month.

The position is based at 266 Water Street, Eddyville, Kentucky. The work environment is hazardous because it involves working in a state correctional facility with convicted felons or in a juvenile detention facility. Employees may also encounter hazards associated with operating a motor vehicle while providing transportation services.

The position pays $18.81 per hour, with applicable locality, shift, weekend, and holiday premiums. Applicants must comply with all federal and state laws applicable to carrying, using, and possessing firearms and ammunition. Employees in this position are prohibited from using medical cannabis due to applicable state or federal laws.

Requirements

• Be a high school graduate.
• Be at least 20 years of age.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Meet all federal and state laws applicable to carrying, using, and possessing firearms and ammunition at the time of employment.
• Maintain any required licenses, certifications, or other credentials for the length of employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain institutional control and provide safety and security for facility inmates, staff, and the general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise inmate activities in housing units, dining areas, recreation areas, and work areas.
• Attend to inmates’ medical, visitation, personal property, and recreational needs.
• Inspect and patrol grounds for contraband, unauthorized personnel, and other security risks.
• Complete required reports and daily logs.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
