About The Position

Correctional Officers are essential for the smooth operation of our jail, playing a vital role in supporting residents' rehabilitation and fostering a positive, safe environment. While background and experience are considered, the most important factor is the individual's character, as comprehensive training will be provided. This role aligns with the Community Reintegration Center's Mission to promote successful community reintegration through programming and resources, and its Vision to enhance public safety and quality of life via successful resident reintegration. The primary responsibility involves monitoring and safeguarding residents within a direct supervision housing unit. This includes managing daily routines, supervising meals, conducting searches, and evaluating resident behavior. Officers are expected to instruct and direct residents, ensuring the safety of their housing unit. The position may involve handling challenging situations such as disruptive or violent behavior, working with diverse individuals and varying sentence lengths. Additionally, the role requires writing reports and utilizing software systems, with basic skills being necessary and training provided.

Requirements

  • Minimum Age of 18 required
  • High School Diploma, HSED or GED required
  • Valid Driver’s License required upon application and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Applicants shall be of good moral character determined from the results of fingerprinting and background investigation
  • Felons, unless pardoned will be rejected
  • Certification by the Law Enforcement Standards Board must be acquired during the probationary period and maintained during incumbency (Certification Training provided)
  • Must have the ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, and lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Successfully complete appropriate training program
  • Successfully complete Law Enforcement Training Courses, which may include, but are not limited to: Jailor Certification, and Direct Supervision Principles
  • Submit to a thorough background investigation
  • Pass a pre-employment drug testing and medical examination after preliminary offer of employment
  • Establish Wisconsin State residency within six (6) months of starting date
  • Submit a full account of training and experience (i.e., by submitting an up-to-date resume or by fully completing the application) during the application process
  • Possess the minimum qualifications at the time of filing an application
