About The Position

Correctional Officers are key to the smooth running of the jail, playing an important role in supporting residents with their rehabilitation and creating a positive and safe environment. The position emphasizes that the kind of person an applicant is matters most, as other skills can be taught. The role aligns with the Community Reintegration Center's Mission to promote successful community reintegration by providing programming and resources that comprehensively meet the needs of residents in their care, supporting opportunities for positive change. The Vision is to enhance public safety and quality of life through the successful reintegration of residents. Many officers enjoy the daily variety and appreciate working with people of varying backgrounds, finding fulfillment in helping residents improve and progress. Requirements

  • Minimum Age of 18 required
  • High School Diploma, HSED or GED required
  • Valid Driver’s License required upon application and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Applicants shall be of good moral character determined from the results of fingerprinting and background investigation
  • Felons, unless pardoned, will be rejected
  • Certification by the Law Enforcement Standards Board must be acquired during the probationary period and maintained during incumbency (Certification Training provided)
  • Must have the ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, and lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Successfully complete appropriate training program
  • Successfully complete law enforcement training courses, which may include, but are not limited to: Jailor Certification, and Direct Supervision Principles
  • Submit to a thorough background investigation
  • Pass a pre-employment drug testing and medical examination after preliminary offer of employment
  • Possess the minimum qualifications at the time of filing an application
  • Establish Wisconsin State residency within six (6) months of starting date
