About The Position

The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking highly motivated and talented individuals for the positions of Correctional Officer 1 and/or 2, at the Monroe Correctional Complex, Monroe, WA. This facility is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The on-call/intermittent positions have no minimum hour guarantee. MCC is a 2,400-bed multi-custody facility, with custody levels ranging from Maximum, Close, Medium & Minimum. Monroe Correctional Complex opened in 1910 and is one of the longest standing prisons in Washington State. MCC structures its operations and programs around practices that show sustainable reductions in incarcerated individuals returning to prison while also enhancing security for the facility and safety for communities across Washington. Whether the work is inside a prison, in community corrections, or in an administrative office, the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all incarcerated individuals can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • Valid Driver's license
  • The legal (Constitutional) right to carry a firearm
  • One year of experience as a Department of Corrections (DOC) Corrections and Custody Officer, which includes successful completion of the CORE (Academy) and the Correctional Officer Field Training Program (to qualify at CO2 level).
  • One year of experience as a Correctional Officer in adult or juvenile corrections where security functions equivalent to a DOC Corrections and Security Officer 2 were performed (to qualify at CO2 level).

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety and security in an adult correctional facility.
  • Assist in controlling, directing, and monitoring the activities and movement of incarcerated individuals.
  • Maintain the security of the institution and control movement into, out of, and within the institution in accordance with established department methods and procedures.
  • Act as a positive role model and work with incarcerated individuals to help them become productive members of society.
  • Use interpersonal and communication skills to correct and counteract criminal thinking while maintaining safe confinement environments for individuals to pursue successful re-entry into communities.
