About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is proud to be a part of the fourth annual State of North Carolina Career Expo! This event will double as a Hiring Event for our Department. We will be offering jobs on the spot to qualified candidates applying for Correctional Officer positions.

Requirements

  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards Requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Produce a negative drug screening result.
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Trainee and Correctional Officer I).
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience as a Correctional Officer OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Correctional Officer II).
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Officer OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Correctional Officer III).

  • Referral by a current Department of Adult Corrections employee for a potential referral bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation.
  • Care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.
  • Supervising offenders requiring limited, moderate, or constant supervision.
  • Working any shift including rotating, fixed shift, or split shift, which may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required.
  • Completing six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), which may require overnight weekday stay at a training facility.
  • Adhering to the US Dept. of Justice Final Rule on the "National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape."
