About The Position
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is proud to be a part of the fourth annual State of North Carolina Career Expo! This event will double as a Hiring Event for our Department. We will be offering jobs on the spot to qualified candidates applying for Correctional Officer positions.
Requirements
- Meet Criminal Justice Standards Requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Produce a negative drug screening result.
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Trainee and Correctional Officer I).
- High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience as a Correctional Officer OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Correctional Officer II).
- High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Officer OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Correctional Officer III).

Responsibilities
- Safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation.
- Care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.
- Supervising offenders requiring limited, moderate, or constant supervision.
- Working any shift including rotating, fixed shift, or split shift, which may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required.
- Completing six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), which may require overnight weekday stay at a training facility.
- Adhering to the US Dept. of Justice Final Rule on the "National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape."
