About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is participating in the fourth annual State of North Carolina Career Expo, which will also serve as a Hiring Event for the department. Qualified candidates applying for Correctional Food Service Officer positions will be offered jobs on the spot. The department is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property, and for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. It includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff, as well as probation/parole officers. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations, and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission.

Requirements

Meet Criminal Justice Standards Requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
Pass a criminal background check.
Produce a negative drug screening result.
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma.
One year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer (for Trainee and Officer I).
Two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer (for Officer II).
Three years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer (for Officer III).
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

Supervise minimum custody offenders who require limited supervision and may leave cells at certain times of the day.
Supervise medium custody offenders who require a moderate level of supervision.
Supervise close custody offenders who require constant supervision and have heavily controlled movement.
Complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), which may require overnight weekday stays.
Work any shift, including rotating, fixed, or split shifts, which may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.
Adhere to the US Dept. of Justice Final Rule on the "National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape."
