About The Position

This position is at Greene Correctional Institution, a minimum custody facility in Maury, NC that houses 656 adult male offenders. The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years experience as a Correctional Sergeant.
  • Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility.
  • Knowledge of facility operations.
  • Knowledge of Prison's policy and procedures.
  • Documented report writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision of subordinate staff.
  • Conducts shift line-ups.
  • Makes shift assignments.
  • Inspects all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
  • Completes, reviews, and maintains time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
  • Accounts for persons and funds.
  • Ensures that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
  • Identifies training needs and coordinates delivery of training for subordinate staff.
  • Conducts internal investigations.
  • Develops operational plans, post orders, and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensures the custody and security of the facility.
