About The Position

The Correctional Housing Unit II position is located at Eastern Correctional Institution in Maury NC, which houses approximately 477 medium or close custody male offenders. This position provides direct support to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager III and assumes responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit in the absence of the Correctional Housing Unit Manager III. This position is responsible for first line supervision of Correctional Sergeants.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of correctional experience, two of which must have been at a supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Assuming responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit in the absence of the CHUM III.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to subordinate staff and ensures staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform their job responsibilities under a variety of conditions.
  • Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing standard operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
  • Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders.
  • Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations.
  • Responding to emergency situations such as: distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders.
  • Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband.
  • Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
  • Preparing, reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
  • Serving on a variety of institutional committees as needed.
