About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is a large state agency responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff, as well as probation/parole officers. The agency's mission is to safeguard and preserve lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation. This specific position is located at Orange Correctional Center, a male minimum custody facility in Hillsborough, NC. The role involves supervising Correctional Food Service Officers and overseeing inmates in large-scale food production, including the preparation and service of regular and therapeutic diets. Employees utilize a computerized food and nutrition system for daily meal preparation and service, and are responsible for food preparation, serving, storage, menu planning (including substitutions), maintaining sanitation standards, and related recordkeeping.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer, or one year as a Correctional Food Service Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience in sanitation, preparing menus, managing inventory, and/or other large-scale food service production activities.
  • Documented supervision of employees and/or offender workers.
