About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Correctional Food Service Officers (CFSO). Employees in this position play a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant meal preparation and delivery for the offender population while maintaining security and sanitation standards.

Requirements

  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
  • One year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, as a Correctional Officer OR An equivalent combination of education and experience (for Trainee and CFSO I)
  • Two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer OR An equivalent combination of education and experience (for CFSO II)
  • Three years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer OR An equivalent combination of education and experience (for CFSO III)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and instruct offenders in food preparation, serving, and cleanup activities according to established menus and schedules.
  • Inspect food items and supplies for quality and quantity; report shortages or discrepancies promptly.
  • Complete required documentation, including production records, temperature logs, and inventory reports.
  • Coordinate timely meal service and distribution to designated housing units.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing food and supplies in compliance with inventory control procedures.
