The NC Department of Adult Correction is a large state agency with over 14,000 employees responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons, probation/parole services, Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations, and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. The position will provide support services to assigned diagnostic centers by resolving complex issues related to sentences and commitments, monitoring production and compliance with policies, reviewing electronic files and PSD reports, and acting in an advisory capacity. This role involves consultations with administrative and field staff to identify and correct operational problems, implement legislative and policy changes, and provide daily assistance with issues requiring inter-agency contact. The position will also conduct research and prepare reports for administrative staff on various topics, often in critical situations. Additionally, the role involves coordinating and administering the Presentence Diagnostic (PSD) program, chairing committees, writing reports to the court, consulting with other agencies, scheduling appointments, and ensuring proper document disposition. Other responsibilities include overseeing statewide DNA testing, providing training and monitoring compliance for programs like the Exceptional Students Program, Non-English Speaking Program, and Consulate Notification, daily monitoring of diagnostic center production statistics, revising the Offender Rule Book and Audio/Visual Offender Orientation video, monitoring psychological test materials, setting up and participating in training programs for various staff, and preparing the Diagnostic Services Branch monthly statistical report.
