About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising inmates for labor purposes. Ensures the safety of inmates and the general public by enforcing compliance with state corrections rules and regulations. Trains inmates in the proper use, maintenance, and repair of equipment; supervises inmates in the repair and maintenance of city streets and sidewalks. Inspects damage; estimates needed repairs and required materials. Inventories all tools; ensures serviceability of inmate van; ensures safety equipment is operable; maintains operability of all assigned equipment. Coordinates with other crews. Initiates work orders. Enforces work site safety guidelines. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the performance of street maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the performance of street maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of inmate supervision.
  • Skill in implementing policies and procedures.
  • Skill in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Skill in management and supervision.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain certification by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
