About The Position

This position supervises inmate laborers in the repair and maintenance of parks and recreation facilities and grounds. Supervises and observes inmate activities; maintains security of inmates and the general public; completes regular inmate attendance count. Searches inmates, equipment, and van to remove contraband. Administers medications and first aid to inmates; responds to inmate requests for other medical attention. Transports inmates to and from assignments. Ensures inmate compliance with state and departmental policies and procedures. Maintains daily reports of all accidents, incidents, and activities. Receives and releases inmates transferred to and from correctional facility; completes required paperwork. Supervises the routine cleaning and maintenance of tools and van. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge of modern corrections practices and procedures.
Knowledge of Department of Corrections guidelines and federal and state laws pertaining to the incarceration of persons.
Knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques.
Knowledge of the safe use of power tools and lawn equipment.
Skill in the use of self defense techniques, including firearms.
Skill in problem solving and decision making.
Skill in management and supervision.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Must pass P.O.S.T. certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally within six months but may be altered.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
