About The Position

This position is assigned to Eastern Correctional Institution. Position will be assigned to a housing unit in the custody area. Effective verbal/written communication with other staff, offenders, and the general public.

Requirements

Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

Defend oneself against attack by violent persons.
Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent/ verbally abusive.
Conduct continuous visual/audio surveillance of assigned work area.
Operate office machines/ prepare written reports/forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources.
Demonstrate/ instruct offenders in the proper safe use of tools, equipment/supplies.
Review, analyze/evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interview/documentation/personal observation.
Perform crisis intervention/routine counseling to include suicide prevention.
Account for supplies/ equipment.
Implement/ manage correctional programs.
