About The Position

This position is located at Dan River Prison Work Farm, Caswell, NC. Dan River Prison Work Farm is a minimum-custody prison housing male offenders. The largest offender population consists of minimum custody offenders. Reporting to the Programs Supervisor I, employees in this class provide programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the prison system.

Requirements

Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities

Assist with teaching 40 hours of Domestic Violence from approved curriculum.
Screen and assign offenders from all minimum custody facilities across the state.
Plan and facilitate graduation for offenders after course completion.
Maintain case manager responsibilities.
Develop case plans, answering and following up on offender questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee.
Assist in major dynamic programs or coordinating major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders, such as offender work assignments, work release, education, or recreation as well as transition planning and coordinating.
Plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community.
