Correctional Case Manager - Mountain View Correctional Institution
About The Position
This position is located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Avery County. Mountain View is a medium custody male facility that houses approximately 908 offenders. We offer a variety of educational classes and programs to promote offender rehabilitation. This position carries a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on inmate questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Employees in this position plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community.
Requirements
- Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
- Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
- Pass a criminal background check
- Produce a negative drug screening result
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities
- Staying up to date on policies and procedures of prisons
- Maintaining a case load of offenders providing supportive counseling
- Interview offenders to gather and evaluate information concerning their past experience, training attitude, social environment, and mental capabilities
- Working with individuals from the community and other public and private programs on services that may be available for offenders
- Supervising various programs within the framework of policies and procedures
- Effectively communicate both orally and in writing
