About Branchville Correctional Facility: Branchville Correctional Facility is a medium‑security facility located in Branchville, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 1,400 incarcerated adult males. The facility focuses on rehabilitation by offering several educational and vocational programs. Incarcerated individuals participate in woodworking and sewing, producing items that support local community organizations. Staff foster an environment that promotes accountability, skill development, and preparation for re‑entry. The facility’s rural southern Indiana location provides a structured and supportive atmosphere for growth. Role Overview: As a Correctional Captain, you will be responsible for the management, supervision, and safety of the facility, incarcerated individuals, coworkers, and the general public. In addition, you must interpret and apply the IDOC facility rules, policies and procedures in a firm, fair and consistent manner to both incarcerated individuals and staff. You will be responsible for the review and development of policies and procedures related to custody. In the event of an emergency, effective leadership must be immediately exhibited.

Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must test negative on all drug screenings.
Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and practices utilized in a correctional environment.
Ability to supervise and achieve desired results from offenders and staff.
Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to apply as needed.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including giving clear directions.
Ability to collaborate with other departmental requests regarding custody needs.
Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
Complete all mandatory training including the DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
A High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 4+ years of experience in a correctional institution, law enforcement or military law enforcement, and two (2) years of experience as a correctional supervisor or supervisory training in a related field applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Oversee daily inspections of the units.
Track, properly vet, and report all incidents to the Operations Center.
Direct assigned staff in maintaining the security and safety of offenders, buildings, and grounds.
Manage staff including training, time management, time off approvals, specific shift assignments, corrective action and performance evaluations.
Assist in identifying offender treatment needs and support programs for treatment and rehabilitation which may include encouraging offenders to accept professional assistance and treatment from staff as needed.
Counsel offenders in an informal and unofficial capacity.
Oversee the records on shift reports, policy and procedure updates and violations of policies and procedures.
Direct staff regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.
Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
