The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (“MSO”) is seeking a qualified professional to work as a Correction Officer/Boiler Room Engineer (“Engineer”) to work in the Engineering department at the Middlesex Jail and House of Correction in Billerica, MA. The work schedule for this position is Sunday through Thursday with an eight (8) hour flex shift between the hours 9:00p.m. to 9:00a.m. The days off for this position are Friday and Saturday. The hours and days off are subject to change at the discretion of Management and the needs of the Engineering department. Under direct supervision of the Senior Correction Officer (Sergeant) or other employees of higher grade, the Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, assessing and responding to alarms, maintaining and operating all boilers, furnaces and auxiliary boiler equipment, flow meters, pumps, compressors, generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers and other similar mechanical items. This is a full-time, non-exempt position covered under a collective bargaining agreement (NEPBA, Local 500). The individual selected for the position of Correction Officer/Boiler Room Engineer shall be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of working in a law enforcement agency and must comply with all institutional rules regarding safety and security.
