The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) is seeking a Correction Nurse Practitioner Supervisor to join their team. Requirements

  • Valid license as Registered Nurse.
  • Completion of an advanced level practice nurse program for Clinical Nurse Specialist or Certified Nurse Practitioner.
  • Certified by the Ohio Board of Nursing for advanced practice with a valid certificate of authority and certificate to prescribe in accordance with ORC 4723.
  • 5 years of experience in planning, administering, and compliance with health care program(s).
  • OR 5 years of experience as Correctional/Nurse Practitioner, 65651/65652.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
  • Must conduct themselves professionally, and in a law-abiding manner, at all times and in accordance with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction Standards of Employee Conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Directs assigned mental healthcare-related project(s) covering all phases of project management with ODRC executives and the Bureau of Behavioral Health Services as primary stakeholders.
  • Focuses on strategic planning of federal/state mental healthcare-related mandated projects.
  • Coordinates projects with other services, writes, implements, and monitors policy, and ensures compliance.
  • Ensures policy, procedures, directives, and objectives align with the agency's mission and goals and/or federal/state legislation.
  • Interprets federal and state laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Develops and/or directs the development and implementation of planning documents (e.g., resources, specific assignments).
  • Serves as agency representative for projects in public forums (e.g., focus groups, other state agencies, county agencies, media, federal government, legislature).
  • Makes project presentations to organizations, executive management, and political organizations and individuals to educate/market benefits.
  • Attends meetings, training, conferences, and/or workshops on related topics.
  • May serve on committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supervises/directs assigned professional, technical, and/or administrative/clerical staff.
  • Conducts themselves professionally and in a law-abiding manner at all times and in accordance with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction Standards of Employee Conduct.
  • Under the direction of the state chief psychiatrist, spends time in each of the DRC institutional mental health care areas to provide scheduled routine inmate patient care, as well as emergency mental health care.
  • Examines, diagnoses, and treats patients within the scope of CNP/DNP practice, as deemed identified by the State of Ohio.
  • Monitors progress of and intervenes in the course of chronic illnesses using DRC policies/protocols for guidance.
  • Facilitates with institutional psychiatrist(s), mental health nurse practitioners, and other administrators and clinical staff, the completion of mental health re-class and requests for non-formulary medications as necessary.
  • Writes up mental health information gathered during patient interviews according to DRC BOBHS guidelines/policies/protocols and ACA standards.
  • Documents all assessments and diagnostic impressions, as well as any treatment plans and follow-up parameters.
  • Cooperates with the state chief psychiatrist and mental health quality oversight and accepts constructive suggestions/redirection/guidance within the administrative portion of the job.
  • Provides clinical oversight of institutional mental health services under the direction of the state chief psychiatrist.
  • Makes regular visits to DRC institutions, providing clinical supervision to institutional CNPs/PAs/administrators/mental health care staff.
  • Monitors and evaluates the delivery of mental health services and supports actions to improve those services as necessary.
  • Assists the state chief psychiatrist with the evaluation of requests for movement of mental health inmates to ensure placement at the appropriate level of care, resource management and utilization, and non-formulary drugs and other administrative duties.
  • Provides direct clinical services on-site and/or via tele-med as needed to cover unexpected short-term emergency clinical needs.
  • Participates/conducts investigations of mental healthcare-related incidents and provides recommendations to managing officers of the agency.
  • Implements quality initiatives and coordinates related projects.
  • Renders decisions when interrelated projects require direction.
  • Coordinates a multitude of tasks or subprojects.
  • Determines if changes need to be made for optimum service delivery.
  • Interviews stakeholders to determine needs and expectations and maintains regular contact with stakeholders to market products or services and obtain feedback.
  • Manages and negotiates change (e.g., cost, assignments, objectives) within projects.
  • Determines the need for division of a given project into subprojects, distribution of work for subprojects (e.g., outside source), and oversees activities conducted within each subproject.
  • Defines project requirements, quality standards, and timelines.
  • Determines and evaluates risks that may affect projects.
  • Defines specific activities to be performed to produce project deliverables.
  • Evaluates deliverables and ensures projects are ready to move on to their next phase.
  • Addresses any problems found in testing/piloting.
  • Ensures scheduled time frames are met.
  • Provides regular progress reports.
  • Determines and allocates resources and assists in budget planning.
  • Determines and evaluates testing and/or pilot programs and/or projects.
  • Oversees implementation schedules, manages and processes (e.g., selects appropriate processes, coordinates review proposals, conducts bidder conferences, directs evaluation of bid/proposals, recommends bid/proposal selection, represents agency/project to controlling board, executes valid contract, and manages request for proposal, quote and information and invitation to bid) procurement documents.
