About The Position

Working closely with the EVP and General Counsel, the Corporate Energy Director is responsible for advancing the company’s interests related to negotiating and securing competitive power rates for U.S. facilities. This role leads the negotiation and implementation of power purchase agreements in both regulated and unregulated markets and requires experience across a range of domestic power markets, including renewable energy markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in related field
  • 7+ years technical experience
  • 10+ years manufacturing experience
  • In depth understanding of commercial power markets and experience negotiating commercial terms with traditional and renewable power generation
  • Experience negotiating and implementing large scale power purchase agreements in both regulated and unregulated markets
  • Experience with energy regulation and ratemaking
  • Experience working with state and federal legislatures on energy policy
  • Negotiated wholesale power and natural gas contracts and managed projects both domestically and internationally
  • Has testified before utility regulatory bodies in various locations.
  • Understands the gas and power suppliers (existing and potential) to all existing and future facilities, their costs and needs, the market and regulatory issues involved as well as understanding the aluminum business, the peculiarities of operations and requirements of gas and electrical supply.
  • Is government, business and socially oriented to understand and connect with the stakeholders on the need for the energy supply and more importantly all the socio-economic issues related to job existence and incremental development.

Nice To Haves

  • JD and/or Masters in related field
  • 10+ years technical experience
  • 15+ years manufacturing experience
  • Knowledge of MISO markets preferred
  • Aluminum industry experience
  • Familiarity with FERC and WECC bulk power system reliability standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the negotiation and implementation of power purchase agreements in regulated and unregulated markets, including renewable energy markets
  • Advance strategies to secure competitive long term power supply for U.S. facilities
  • Assist with negotiation of wholesale power and natural gas contracts for all global facilities
  • Assist with strategy and interfacing with local and state governments on issues related to power and economic impact of facilities
  • Provide testimony in support of corporate initiatives related to power and natural gas
  • Assist with management of ongoing power and natural gas contracts
