About The Position

Nexus Health Systems is seeking an experienced and strategic Corporate Director of Plant Operations to oversee the physical environment, facility infrastructure, safety programs, and capital planning across all Nexus Health Systems facilities. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring that all hospitals maintain safe, compliant, and efficiently operated physical plants while meeting regulatory requirements and Nexus operational standards. Serving as the corporate subject matter expert for facilities management, Environment of Care (EOC), Life Safety, Emergency Preparedness, and Plant Operations, this position provides direct oversight, guidance, auditing, and support to facility-level Plant Operations teams and executive leadership across the organization. The Corporate Director of Plant Operations serves as the organization's Safety Officer and leads initiatives that ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff while supporting the long-term operational and capital needs of all Nexus facilities. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible building maintenance and facility operations experience required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and facility infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of Environment of Care, Life Safety, Emergency Management, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, NFPA, and state regulatory standards.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across several locations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly between Nexus facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training, trade certifications, or advanced education in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a leadership role overseeing multiple facilities or healthcare environments preferred.
  • Experience within hospitals, healthcare facilities, rehabilitation hospitals, behavioral health facilities, or long-term care settings strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects, vendor relationships, and regulatory compliance initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide corporate oversight of Plant Operations programs across all Nexus facilities.
  • Ensure all hospitals maintain safe, efficient, and compliant physical plants and utility systems.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs for buildings, grounds, utility systems, and equipment.
  • Maintain oversight of inventories and maintenance records for hospital-owned equipment.
  • Monitor facility conditions and ensure timely repair or replacement of equipment, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Review maintenance documentation and ensure consistency across facilities.
  • Ensure facilities remain in good repair and provide a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Provide guidance and support regarding plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and general building maintenance operations.
  • Serve as the corporate leader for Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety programs.
  • Ensure all facilities meet Nexus standards for EOC, Life Safety, and facility operations.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and licensing requirements.
  • Conduct regular facility audits and assessments, reporting findings and corrective action plans to executive leadership.
  • Monitor compliance trends and implement system-wide improvements.
  • Support facilities during regulatory surveys, inspections, and accreditation visits.
  • Serve as the organization's Corporate Safety Officer.
  • Lead and oversee facility Safety Committees across all Nexus locations.
  • Ensure safety concerns are identified, addressed, and resolved appropriately.
  • Conduct periodic safety rounds and risk assessments throughout facilities.
  • Investigate and follow up on reported safety hazards and environmental concerns.
  • Develop and deliver safety education and training programs for staff.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Develop and maintain one-year, three-year, and five-year capital improvement plans.
  • Oversee major capital projects, renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and facility improvements.
  • Evaluate facility needs and make recommendations regarding capital expenditures.
  • Coordinate project planning, budgeting, execution, and completion.
  • Monitor project timelines and ensure work is completed in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Source, evaluate, and vet vendors and contractors for maintenance, repairs, and capital projects.
  • Review bids, proposals, and contracts for facility-related services.
  • Ensure contractor work meets Nexus quality, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Develop strong vendor relationships to support operational excellence and cost-effective solutions.
  • Partner with Facility CEOs and leadership teams regarding operational and facility needs.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of facility-level Plant Operations personnel.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to maintenance leaders across the organization.
  • Establish best practices and standard operating procedures for Plant Operations functions.
  • Ensure appropriate emergency coverage and on-call support across all facilities.
  • Serve as the corporate lead during SETRAC activations, emergency management events, and disaster response situations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
