Corporate Development Lead

Mercury•Portland, OR
•$162,200 - $225,200

About The Position

Mercury is hiring a Lead on its Corporate Development team to help shape strategic decisions involving acquisitions, partnerships, fundraising, and investor relations. The role reports to the Head of Corporate Development and works closely with the CEO, CFO, executive team, and leaders across Product and Go-to-Market. The position offers exposure to strategic decisions at a profitable, growth-stage fintech and the opportunity to help build Mercury’s corporate development, investor relations, and strategy capabilities. The team operates as an AI-native, flat, high-agency function, and Mercury has completed two acquisitions with an active M&A roadmap. The Lead will own M&A pipeline tracking and target sourcing, develop prioritized acquisition theses with Product and GTM leaders, and maintain market and competitive intelligence for executive decision-making. Responsibilities also include evaluating and executing deals, leading post-close integration, preparing Board materials, supporting investor relations, and building fundraising materials with the Head of Corporate Development and CFO.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in an in-house Corporate Development role at a technology company.
  • Direct experience on live M&A deals, including diligence, modeling, and execution.
  • Experience driving post-close integration on the company side, including owning the plan and cross-functional workstreams and being accountable for outcomes against the deal model.
  • Strong analytical and data skills, including the ability to work with data independently and tailor analysis from rough estimates to full financial models.
  • Daily experience working with AI and using it to build workflows and increase output.
  • Clear writing skills, including the ability to turn complex strategic questions into decision-driving memos or board-ready slides.
  • Ability to work across Product, Engineering, and GTM and translate roadmap tradeoffs and pipeline gaps into corporate development opportunities.
  • Ability to offer and support a point of view, including constructive disagreement with senior leaders backed by analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in investment banking, private equity, or growth equity.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in fintech, banking or payments business models (including interchange, net interest margin, and deposit economics), or B2B SaaS pricing.

Responsibilities

  • Own M&A pipeline tracking and target sourcing, maintaining a current view of strategic and financial opportunities.
  • Partner with Product and GTM leadership to identify opportunities for M&A or strategic partnerships and translate roadmap needs into a prioritized M&A thesis.
  • Run Mercury’s market intelligence function, tracking competitive and industry developments, public-company comparables, and private-market signals.
  • Run M&A diligence, including financial modeling, target evaluation, synergy analysis, and coordination with Legal, Finance, and Product on deal execution.
  • Drive post-close integration by owning the integration plan, coordinating cross-functional workstreams across Finance, Product, Engineering, People, and Legal, and tracking results against the deal model.
  • Prepare Board of Directors materials alongside the Head of Corporate Development, partnering with the executive team on content and narrative.
  • Support investor relations through investor updates, KPI reporting, comparable-company tracking, and ad hoc requests from existing investors.
  • Build fundraising materials, including pitch decks, data rooms, financial models, and investor narratives, alongside the Head of Corporate Development and CFO.
