The Corporate Counsel serves as a trusted business partner, providing practical, strategic legal guidance that supports growth, manages risk, and strengthens operations. This role works closely with leadership and project teams to deliver solutions grounded in integrity, sound judgment, and a deep understanding of the construction industry.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of construction law, contract negotiation, and risk management.
  • Working knowledge of labor and employment law, including union environments and workforce regulations.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements impacting construction including prevailing wage, licensing and safety.
  • Excellent judgment with the ability to balance legal risk and business priorities with integrity.
  • Skilled in drafting and negotiating complex agreements with strong attention to detail.
  • Practical, solutions-oriented thinker who brings creativity and ingenuity to problem-solving.
  • Clear communicator who can translate legal concepts into actionable guidance and build strong relationships.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, required
  • Eligibility to register as in-house counsel in Colorado, required
  • Progressive experience in construction law, commercial contracting, or a related field in a law firm and/or in-house setting.
  • Experience supporting project-based or operational teams in the construction industry or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated growth in responsibility, operating as a trusted advisor to the business.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing practical, business-minded legal guidance grounded in integrity and sound judgment.
  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities, delivering innovative, strategic solutions that support growth, operational excellence, and long-term success.
  • Partner across the organization on strategic initiatives, including market expansion, project pursuits, workforce planning, and financial decision-making.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex construction and commercial agreements, including prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and joint ventures, with a focus on precision and craftsmanship.
  • Provide ongoing legal support to project teams from preconstruction through closeout, helping navigate contract administration, change management, and issue resolution.
  • Protect the company’s rights and financial interests through clear documentation, effective correspondence, and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with finance and risk management on bonding, surety, and insurance matters, including coverage analysis and risk transfer strategies.
  • Lead the development and execution of strategies for construction claims, including delay, disruption, and cost recovery matters.
  • Advise project teams on notice requirements, documentation, and claim positioning to preserve entitlements.
  • Manage dispute resolution processes, including mediation, arbitration, and litigation, engaging and overseeing outside counsel to achieve efficient, high-quality outcomes.
  • Provide guidance on union labor relations, including interpretation of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), and jurisdictional matters, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Partner with HR and operational leaders on workforce issues, including discipline, grievances, arbitrations, and compliance with the National Labor Relations Act and related laws.
  • Oversee compliance with prevailing wage requirements, including Davis-Bacon, certified payroll, apprenticeship utilization, and workforce mandates.
  • Ensure compliance with contractor licensing, regulatory requirements, and evolving laws impacting project execution.
  • Champion a culture of safety and accountability, advising on OSHA compliance, incident response, and continuous improvement of safety practices.
  • Support and enhance corporate governance, internal policies, and compliance programs, reinforcing a strong foundation of integrity and ethical conduct.
  • Provide training and guidance across the organization on legal, compliance, and risk-related topics.
