About The Position

This role helps overseeing effective compliance with laws, regulations, and standards applicable to Allison products and the company generally and supports other functions of the business by providing practical legal support and advice in a variety of areas, including data privacy and cybersecurity, commercial contracts, sustainability, and general corporate matters.

Requirements

  • Active license to practice law in at least one state with no pending discipline matters, and the ability to obtain a law license in Indiana.
  • Able to exercise initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders via excellent verbal and written communication skills, intelligence, sound judgment, and collegiality.
  • Detail oriented self-starter.
  • Must be a U.S. Person or individual otherwise eligible to be authorized to work with export-controlled items or data, or perform services on military vehicles.
  • JD and four years’ experience with a law firm or relevant in-house legal position.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with business leaders and functional stakeholders to anticipate, mitigate, and resolve legal issues, including providing counsel and training to global business partners on material aspects of all applicable laws and regulations, including enterprise data privacy and cybersecurity (GDPR, PIPL, etc.), sustainability (CBAM, CSDR, EPR, etc.), and some export compliance (EAR, ITAR).
  • Work with cross-functional teams and committees to track and advise on national and international laws, regulations, and other industry standards regulating Allison products, including vehicle safety (NHTSA reporting and recalls), telematics data privacy, vehicle cybersecurity (UN R155, ISO/SAE 21434) and software updates (UN R156), and vehicle emissions (EURO 7, EPA, CARB).
  • Support Allison’s compliance with international materials and prohibitive substance legislation (REACH, RoHS, ELV, IMDS, GADSL, etc.).
  • Provide legal counsel and training relating to Allison product development, new market entry, product environmental strategy and compliance, and contracts on a worldwide basis.
  • Work closely with Allison product quality and safety teams to identify potential safety issues and respond appropriately, including managing any NHTSA recalls, related channel communications, and follow-up reporting obligations.
  • Support for Allison Transmission On Highway European regional office, which includes providing general business legal advice, ensuring corporate documents are maintained, reviewing contracts, and otherwise strategizing about business operations.
  • Ensure appropriate internal reporting to Chief Compliance Officer, General Counsel, and Deputy General Counsel and respective business partners, exercising good judgment on what is material to the audience.
  • Other duties as assigned.
