About The Position

The Corporate Counsel is a senior-level role responsible for providing legal guidance and supporting operational oversight across the Mongiovi & Son family of companies. This position serves as a key advisor to ownership and executive leadership on legal, compliance, risk management, labor, and business matters affecting multiple affiliated entities engaged in plumbing construction and service, fire protection, excavation, alarm services, and monitoring. This role combines hands-on legal counsel with cross-functional collaboration to support safe, compliant, efficient, and profitable operations. The Corporate Counsel is expected to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, and balance legal risk with practical business needs.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law, in good standing.
  • Significant legal experience (typically 7–10+ years), preferably including law firm and in-house or business experience.
  • Strong background in contracts, risk management, compliance, employment/labor matters, and dispute resolution.
  • Strong business judgment and ability to provide practical legal advice.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across several entities.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction or a related industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction law, contracts, claims, insurance, and lien law.
  • Experience advising closely held or family-owned businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary legal advisor to ownership and executive leadership on legal, regulatory, compliance, labor, employment, and risk-management matters.
  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to support company operations, growth initiatives, dispute avoidance, and risk mitigation.
  • Manage legal matters affecting affiliated entities, including contracts, claims, employment issues, litigation, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate and oversee outside counsel and other external legal professionals, including legal strategy, budgets, and performance.
  • Assist in representing the companies in legal proceedings when appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain internal legal, compliance, and governance policies and procedures.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and advise leadership on risks and operational impact.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including customer contracts, subcontracts, vendor agreements, service agreements, confidentiality agreements, and leases.
  • Support project teams and leadership with contract interpretation, risk assessment, claims strategy, and dispute documentation.
  • Prepare and oversee lien waivers, lien releases, mechanics' liens, claim notices, and related documentation.
  • Maintain organized contract and project-related legal records.
  • Advise leadership on contractual exposure, insurance implications, indemnity obligations, and project-specific risks.
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Oversee business licenses, contractor registrations, renewals, and prequalification packages.
  • Maintain legal and regulatory records and support timely filings and renewals.
  • Assist in overseeing safety and risk-management functions.
  • Support OSHA compliance, workplace incident response, and internal investigations.
  • Coordinate with leadership and insurance professionals on claims, coverage, and risk-transfer practices.
  • Advise management on employment and labor matters, including employee relations, discipline, and workplace investigations.
  • Assist with labor relations and union-related matters, including grievances and compliance.
  • Promote consistent employment practices and risk awareness.
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve operational and administrative functions.
  • Provide guidance to managers to support accountability and alignment with company objectives.
  • Support contract administration, compliance processes, and internal workflows.
  • Assist with initiatives related to customer service, asset management, and operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to improvements in systems, reporting, and internal processes.
  • Work with ownership, executive leadership, and the Controller on operational planning and risk evaluation.
  • Support evaluation of business performance, risks, and growth opportunities.
  • Help align legal guidance with financial and operational objectives.
