The person in this role supports the Vice President, Head of Employment and Immigration Law and partners with Human Resources and business managers to manage risk and provide employment and labor law and immigration law support to our ever-growing, dynamic and world-spanning public company. This position is a key contributor to Teladoc Health’s global Legal Department and plays a key role in helping build the infrastructure necessary to employment and labor related legal matters, including supporting VP, Head of Employment and Immigration law, supporting and advising on employment litigation matters, labor matters, policy and procedures, wage and hour and classification matters, employee relations matters, and immigration matters. The ideal candidate for this position must have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs. In addition, the candidate must have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, growing, exciting environment and to manage a team of supporting lawyers and legal professionals.

Requirements

  • Law degree from a major U.S. law school (or foreign equivalent) required with active license to practice law in one of the following states: New York; Illinois; California; Texas; or District of Columbia.
  • At least 2 years of labor & employment experience at a law firm and/or in an in-house legal department.
  • Strong analytical, writing, oral communication, research, investigatory, advocacy, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Vision and experience in strategic initiatives beyond tactical implementation, including balancing legal and business needs while assessing appropriate risk to make tough decisions.
  • Maintain working knowledge of company policies, state and federal legislation.
  • Experience with responding to demand letters, preparing position statements, and with litigation generally.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the VP, Head of Employment and Immigration Law on HR on responding to agency matters (including position statements, responding to Requests for Additional Information, etc.) general litigation (including fact gathering, witness interviews, discovery, preparing evidence and motions practice), provide analysis and advise on issues related to hiring, terminations, performance management, compensation, immigration, investigations, accommodations, reorganizations, and other employment-related matters in alignment with company goals.
  • Monitor changes legislation, regulations, case law, and government enforcement activities relating to the above substantive legal areas, and provide proactive, strategic advice to the VP, Head of Employment and Immigration on compliance with changes.
  • Draft and revise policies, procedures and other employment-related documents and agreements.
  • Manage internal audits and process reviews, and new policy creation and implementation.
  • Participate in creation and delivery of policies related to employment law matters, such as employee handbooks, leave policies, management policies, etc.
  • Anticipate and mitigate potential legal risks and developing strategies to avoid costly litigation.
