About The Position

Greystar is seeking a Corporate Counsel & Director, Legal Services – Litigation to support the General Litigation & Disputes team in managing a high-volume, multi-jurisdictional caseload. This role works directly with and reports to the Senior Director of General Litigation & Disputes, providing substantive legal support on outside counsel management, contract and invoice review, internal investigations, and compliance matters. The position is well suited to an attorney with 1-4 years of litigation experience who is looking to build a career in in-house litigation management within the multifamily/real estate industry.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in good standing in at least one state.
  • Approximately 1-4 years of litigation experience, whether in a law firm, in-house, or judicial clerkship setting; experience with insurance defense, real estate, landlord-tenant, or fair housing matters is a plus but not required.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to translate contract language and case facts into clear, practical guidance.
  • Working knowledge of civil litigation procedure, discovery, and basic contract/indemnification principles.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a high volume of matters simultaneously across multiple jurisdictions and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface professionally with outside counsel, business clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with document automation, e-discovery, or matter management tools is a plus.
  • A collaborative, detail-oriented, and proactive approach, with sound judgment in escalating issues appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal analysis and practical guidance on litigation, dispute, contract, and risk-related issues.
  • Assist with the engagement, coordination, and oversight of outside counsel, including monitoring matter status, strategy, budgets, and related reporting.
  • Review outside counsel invoices and related billing information for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable guidelines.
  • Support internal investigations and fact-development efforts, including gathering information, preparing timelines, coordinating with stakeholders, and assisting with related workstreams.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare written analyses, summaries, and memoranda on litigation, operational, regulatory, and compliance matters.
  • Assist with dispute and claim management from intake through resolution, including coordinating information, tracking deadlines, and supporting response strategy.
  • Draft, review, and revise legal correspondence, agreements, releases, notices, and other litigation-related documents.
  • Support initiatives to improve legal operations, standardize processes, maintain resources, and enhance matter management practices.
  • Track and help manage litigation budgets, reserves, and related financial information in coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Perform other litigation management and legal support functions as assigned.
