About The Position

Oversees the accounting operations of Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA) and its affiliated entities, including billing/accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger. Ensures timely and accurate recording of financial transactions and compliance with accounting standards and the organization’s policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA license, MBA required.
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in a financial management role.
  • 2 years’ experience in public accounting and auditing preferred.
  • Experience in accounting for or auditing federal programs under OMB Circular A-133 preferred.
  • Must be familiar with a variety of non-profit industry concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to be analytical and handle data effectively.
  • Proven ability to develop, lead, and direct the work of others.
  • Proven ability to utilize an ERP system.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and proven leadership ability.
  • Strong attention to detail, well-organized, and project management skills required.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks while still delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with integrity.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for the position.
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the accurate and timely processing of all financial transactions in compliance with accounting standards.
  • Serving as an organizational expert as it relates to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), keeping up to date on all updated guidance, and ensuring compliance.
  • Implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls and segregation of duties, in compliance with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), OMB Circulars, and other best practices for the Finance Department and fiduciary responsibilities of the overall organization.
  • Identifying and being responsible for integration activities related to mergers and acquisitions.
  • Oversight of grant budgeting, reporting, and fiscal compliance.
  • Providing oversight for payroll and related activities.
  • Supervising and coordinating all external financial audits for GCNA and its affiliates, including external financial and compliance audits, fiscal monitoring visits, and other State and Federal audits and reviews.
  • Working with external auditors, bank and/or state auditors, supplying timely and accurate information to achieve successful results, and communicating regularly with Finance Leadership.
  • Collaborating with Director, Compliance & Reporting. Education on the overlap of financial activities.
  • Overseeing billing, collections, payables, and receivables functions.
  • Overseeing the month and year-end close process.
  • Establishing, documenting, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures to ensure all financial transactions have been executed and documented in accordance with GAAP and applicable OMB Circulars and other guidelines (CARF, etc.).
  • Maintaining adequate documentation to support all financial activity processed by the Finance Department, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
  • Supporting the financial reporting function by ensuring timely and accurate account reconciliations, including supporting documentation.
  • Ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met.
  • Staying current with principles and practices relating to internal controls, segregation of duties, GAAP, OMB Circulars, and other best practices and requirements for the Finance Department, and fiduciary responsibilities of GCNA.
  • Making recommendations to Finance leadership regarding those best practices, policies, procedures, and overall process improvement.
  • Building a high-performing team through an environment based on strong internal controls and exceptional customer service.
  • Maintaining regular and consistent in-person attendance.
  • Responsible for performance management (coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews), staffing, compensation, and development of Team Members.
  • Playing a critical role in driving company culture change efforts and change management processes.
