About The Position

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is a venture capital firm founded in Silicon Valley in 2009, backing entrepreneurs building the future through technology across various stages and sectors. With over $100B under management, a16z invests in seed to growth-stage technology companies. The firm is seeking a Corporate Controller to report to the Chief Operating Officer. This role will own the firm’s financial operating system, encompassing corporate accounting, treasury, firmwide consolidation, planning, reporting, and financial systems. The objective is to ensure accurate financial data, disciplined processes, scalable systems, and clear performance visibility across the management company and related entities. The Corporate Controller will lead corporate accounting operations, payroll, accounts payable, expense accounting, treasury and cash management, firmwide financial consolidation, budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting. This leader will collaborate closely with Fund Finance, Tax, HR, Legal, IT, vertical leadership, and firm leadership to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, actionable, and built on repeatable processes. The ideal candidate will be a strong accounting operator with experience leading finance teams in a complex investment management, asset management, private equity, venture capital, or similarly multi-entity environment. While technical accounting expertise is valuable, the primary focus is on operational excellence, financial discipline, systems architecture, process modernization, and team leadership. Given a16z’s scale, global operations, multinational entity structure, and growth, this leader will build and improve the infrastructure to support the firm’s next stage. This includes owning the Workday financial roadmap, enhancing expense and accounting automation, strengthening financial data architecture, and modernizing the team’s approach to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and increase the speed and quality of financial reporting. Core systems include Workday, Navan, and Planful. This role requires an in-office presence 2-3 days a week in our Menlo Park, CA or San Francisco, CA office.
