About The Position

The focus of this specialized, technically oriented position is on meeting and exceeding high standards of accuracy and quality based on established systems, technologies and guidelines. Strength in technical problem solving based on expertise and experience, and a strong commitment to efficiently achieve high quality results is required. A thoughtful, persevering, self-disciplined approach to achieving accurate, detailed work is essential. Job responsibilities and expectations are clearly defined, as is the scope of job authority. Expertise and competency is developed through an ongoing exposure to and training in new technical systems once they have been adopted and well tested. A key aspect of the job includes the ongoing identification of technical problems and the development of sound, carefully thought-out solutions. Problem solving is focused on proven systems and technologies and established organizational relationships. Solutions should minimize risk to the organization and utilize existing resources. Because of the expertise developed in this position, it is necessary to regularly initiate and communicate viewpoints on problems and opportunities in a factual, straightforward manner. This job allows for autonomy and independence and is primarily self-reliant. The job involves managing others, and there is a need for someone who will exercise the necessary authority in assuring that subordinates meet or exceed the same technical standards of quality and accuracy. Delegation must be firm, clear, and focused on the specific tasks and technical activities of the job. Because of the fast-paced job environment, decisions must be made quickly and firmly, within the defined scope of job authority and based on job expertise. In general, this is a valued expert expected to deliver high quality, accurate results, while efficiently maintaining and enhancing existing organizational systems and standards.

Requirements

  • Four-year Accounting degree, or higher, from a university is required
  • Ten or more years’ experience within the manufacturing or construction industry is preferred
  • Five or more years’ experience managing subordinates

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
  • Produce GAAP compliant financial statements
  • Maintain monthly close calendar and accountability
  • Review all journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Analyze monthly variances vs. Budget, Forecast, Prior Year, Expected job performance
  • Prepare reporting packages for Executive Team, Leadership Team, and Company Meeting
  • Ensure financials are finalized timely enough to support operational decisions.
  • Ensure revenue and expenses are reporting in the correct period
  • Review and monitor project gain and fade
  • Ensure labor, material, freight, and other costs are costed to the correct job. Working through other teams is required
  • Maintain accounting integrity
  • Ensure proper workflow controls
  • Improve automation
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and KPI Reporting
  • Produce rolling cash forecasts
  • Monitor AR aging and collections
  • Review billing timing and cash conversion
  • Monitor retainage to ensure timely billing and collection
  • Manage AP timing
  • Analyze inventory turns and excess inventory
  • Support banking relationships and covenant compliance
  • Maintain strong internal controls
  • Enforce segregation of duties where practical
  • Review approval workflows
  • Maintain audit ready documentation
  • Coordinate external audit/review processes
  • Oversee payroll processing and reporting
  • Lead and develop accounting staff
  • Create accountability and consistency
  • Standardize processes
  • Build cross training
  • Create and maintain relevant policies, processes, and work instructions
  • Conduct performance reviews and coaching where needed
  • Lead annual budgeting process
  • Prepare rolling forecasts
  • Evaluate operational investments
  • Support acquisitions/vertical integration analysis as needed
  • Coordinate renewals and reporting
  • Complete timely, accurate audits
  • Oversee sales & use tax compliance
  • Oversee payroll compliance
  • Ensure document retention standards are followed
