About The Position

Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry, the backbone of the U.S. economy. Our market-leading payment products help truckers save thousands of dollars on fuel (their #1 business expense) while providing our fuel stop partners with access to new, hard-to-reach customers. We’re a fast-growing marketplace business looking for a new customer-obsessed teammate to join us on this exciting journey. As Corporate Controller, you will report to the CFO and lead Mudflap’s accounting organization. You’ll oversee a high-performing team and be responsible for building a best-in-class accounting function that scales with our growth. This is a strategic and operational leadership role, requiring deep expertise in public company readiness, technical accounting, and global financial operations. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, driving operational excellence, and preparing Mudflap for its next stage of growth. This role involves a hybrid work approach, balancing in-office collaboration with the ability to work remotely.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in high-growth companies.
  • Proven experience as a Corporate Controller, VP of Accounting, or Head of Accounting, with responsibility for leading and scaling teams.
  • Strong experience with public companies and/or IPO readiness, including SOX compliance and external reporting.
  • Background in global accounting operations, including managing international entities and distributed teams.
  • CPA required; Big 4 or top-tier public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Deep expertise in GAAP, technical accounting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with modern accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite) and building scalable financial infrastructure.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented mindset paired with strategic thinking and the ability to operate at both altitude and depth.

  • Experience in fintech, payments, or marketplace businesses is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and scale the global accounting function, overseeing all core areas including general ledger, financial reporting, AP/AR, payroll, and tax.
  • Manage and develop a team of accounting leaders and professionals, fostering a high-performance, accountable, and growth-oriented culture.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and audit-ready financial statements.
  • Establish and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and readiness for public company standards (SOX, SEC reporting).
  • Serve as a key partner in public company readiness efforts, including systems, controls, reporting, and audit infrastructure.
  • Oversee external audits, tax compliance, and relationships with auditors, advisors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide technical accounting leadership on complex areas (e.g., revenue recognition, financial instruments, equity, international operations).
  • Drive global accounting operations as the company expands internationally, including multi-entity and multi-currency environments.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, RevOps, and Product to improve financial processes, systems, and reporting capabilities.
  • Support strategic decision-making by providing insights on accounting implications, risks, and opportunities.
  • Evaluate and implement systems and automation to improve efficiency, scalability, and data integrity (e.g., NetSuite and adjacent tools).
