About The Position

Mackenzie Investments, a key part of IGM Financial Inc., is seeking a Manager, Corporate Communications for a 12-18 month contract role, with the possibility of extension or permanent placement. This position is part of a national Corporate Communications team and will lead public and media relations for IGM Financial, including IG Wealth Management and Mackenzie Investments. The role involves developing and executing external communications strategies to enhance brand reputation, support business priorities, and elevate the organizations' voice in the Canadian wealth and asset management industries. The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator with strong news judgment, media relations experience, executive presence, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, complex environments. They should possess a proactive mindset, strong storytelling skills, a data-informed approach, and a solid understanding of public policy, regulatory developments, and stakeholder issues impacting corporate reputation, especially within a publicly traded company. This role requires close collaboration with marketing, senior leadership, business partners, and legal teams, as well as leading PR agency engagement. The Manager will play a key role in shaping narratives, managing media relationships, and driving measurable communications outcomes.

Requirements

  • 6–8+ years of experience in corporate communications, public affairs, or media relations, ideally within financial services, asset management, or another regulated industry.
  • Proven experience leading proactive and reactive media relations, with a strong network of journalist and media contacts in Canada.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex business and financial concepts into clear, compelling content for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated communications strategies that deliver measurable results.
  • Experience supporting senior executives, including preparing briefing materials, media training, and providing strategic communications counsel.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across marketing, business teams, legal, compliance, and external partners.
  • Experience managing agency partners, including providing strategic direction and overseeing execution.
  • Sound judgment and experience in issues and crisis communications, with the ability to operate calmly under pressure.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and analyzing media coverage and using insights to inform strategy and reporting.
  • Strong proficiency with AI and digital tools (e.g., generative AI for content development, media monitoring, and insights generation), with the ability to apply these technologies to enhance efficiency, creativity, and data-driven communications.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in public affairs, government relations, regulatory communications, or stakeholder engagement is considered a strong asset, particularly within financial services or other regulated industries
  • Bilingual in English and French considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead proactive and reactive media relations, including pitching, managing inquiries, and building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists, editors and industry influencers.
  • Identify and advance media opportunities to enhance brand visibility and thought leadership; support issues and crisis communications.
  • Monitor and assess emerging public policy, regulatory and industry issues, providing communications counsel and strategic support to help inform stakeholder engagement and reputation management.
  • Support the development and evolution of IGM’s narrative, ensuring alignment between business strategy, purpose, reputation priorities and stakeholder communications across key audiences.
  • Develop and execute integrated communications plans aligned with business priorities.
  • Translate business strategies into compelling narratives and ensure consistent messaging across channels.
  • Collaborate with marketing, business leads, legal, and agency partners to deliver aligned communications.
  • Drive the development and consistent application of the IGM brand and narrative across external communications, ensuring stakeholder messaging reflects business strategy, purpose and reputation priorities.
  • Create high-quality communications materials, including press releases, key messages, Q&As, byline articles, social media content, and executive briefings.
  • Craft clear, engaging, audience-specific content that supports brand positioning.
  • Provide communications counsel and prepare senior leaders for media, speaking engagements, and external visibility.
  • Partner with senior leaders and other cross-functional teams (particularly Legal, Corporate Secretary, Finance and Investor Relations) to develop integrated messaging and storytelling that strengthens understanding of the IGM’s strategy, performance and impact.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on media coverage and communications performance; refine strategies using insights.
  • Track industry trends and emerging issues to inform proactive planning and support reputation management.
  • Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Drive the effective use of AI-enabled communications tools and best practices to improve content development, workflow efficiency, media intelligence, and overall communications effectiveness.
