About The Position

Altman Plants is seeking a Corporate HR Manager – Benefits and Wellbeing to join their onsite Human Resources team in Vista, California. As a family-owned horticultural grower and the largest commercial grower in the United States, Altman Plants fosters a culture of passion, innovation, quality, teamwork, and a can-do attitude. In this manager-level role, the individual will lead employee benefits, leave administration, wellbeing initiatives, and retirement plan administration. This position involves partnering with Wellbeing Ambassadors and Facilities HR Managers, overseeing benefits and leaves staff, supporting self-funded health plan administration, 401(k) governance, open enrollment, employee communications, and ensuring compliant leave and accommodation practices for a diverse bilingual workforce. The ideal candidate will possess strong California leave knowledge, benefits expertise, sound judgment, and bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience focused on enterprise-level benefits and wellbeing
  • Multi-state benefits administration with knowledge of state-specific leave laws
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required (read, write, translate, speak)
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms (ADP Workforce Now preferred) and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical, communication, and public speaking skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with self-funded health plans strongly preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • CEBS, CBP, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead benefits strategy across health & welfare, 401(k), wellness, and self-funded health plans
  • Drive open enrollment, vendor management, broker relationships, and RFP processes
  • Administer 401(k) plan compliance including Form 5500, audits, and nondiscrimination testing
  • Manage FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA interactive process, and multi-state leave programs
  • Coordinate with third-party leave administrators on processing and return-to-work clearances
  • Ensure compliance with ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and DOL requirements
  • Lead wellbeing initiatives including wellness fairs, health campaigns, and engagement surveys
  • Oversee the Altman Scholarship Program and employee recognition programs
  • Supervise LOA staff and benefits coordinator, train People Ops team on benefits topics
  • Build benefits dashboards and analytics to support leadership decision-making
