Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, or related field and/or H.S. Diploma/GED with equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, or leveraged finance.
  • Proven track record in sales or Credit, client relationship management, and deal execution.
  • Strong understanding of loan syndications, secondary market trading, and financial sponsor dynamics.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with systems such as ClearPar and loan operations processes.
  • Prior proven successful leadership overseeing and leading teams (i.e. leadership/people management/mentoring relationships) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a change agent leader and in improving the results and quality of teams managed or partnered with.
  • Ability to function effectively under pressure, in a fast-paced and complex environment as an individual contributor and leader.
  • Considerable tact, diplomacy and people skills.
  • Must be a highly motivated individual contributor and leader – able to successfully motivate their team and peers and influence partners in other areas to achieve assigned function, region and/or corporate goals.

Responsibilities

  • Revenue generation, sourcing, structuring, and closing complex transactions.
  • Lead client acquisition efforts.
  • Deepen relationships across ONB’s product suite.
  • Drive fee income through strategic market participation.
  • Assist in talent recruitment for new talent needs.
  • Ongoing coaching of existing Bankers and/or Portfolio Bankers to maximize talents, ensure career development and achieve successful performance outcomes.
  • Provide guidance to the team.
  • Partner on exception and/or escalation needs.
  • Collaborate across the department both internally within the line of business, internally with other functions such as Credit, and with external clients.
  • Source and originate loan transactions across new and existing clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with banking partners, syndication desks, brokers, clients, and financial sponsors.
  • Leverage ONB’s full suite of capabilities—including treasury management, swaps, FX, 401(k), and 1834—to deepen client relationships and drive cross-sell opportunities.
  • Communicate ONB’s appetite and participate in primary market offerings with counterparties.
  • Negotiate, structure, and close complex Corporate Banking transactions.
  • Generate fee income through syndication fees, upfront fees, OID, amendment fees, unused fees, and IB/Capital Markets partnership fees.
  • Thoughtfully evaluate risk/return across the portfolio, providing relative value analysis to optimize returns.
  • Trade bank loans on a secondary market basis with approved counterparties, managing exposure and mitigating risk.
  • Use ClearPar to review loan sales and trading documentation, ensuring timely closings and accurate compensation.
  • Close primary and secondary trades in coordination with loan closers and operations, ensuring systems reflect accurate loan terms.
  • Collaborate with underwriting to prepare credit presentations, amendments, waivers, and other transaction-related documentation.
  • Utilize credit skills to identify transaction strengths and weaknesses, designing structural features to mitigate risk.
  • Coordinate funding processes with loan operations, including guidance-line draws, boarding data sheets, and tracking.
  • Provides day-to-day oversight of others on the team to ensure success, internal/external client satisfaction, and alignment with strategic priorities while developing team capabilities.
  • Manages team of RMs and/or Portfolio Bankers with limited guidance from the Director (M3 role) and is a point of escalation (removes barriers/obstacles) as well as decisions requests by team members without sufficient authority or expertise for the subject request.
  • Drives accountability and coaches – set standards, monitor progress, address issues/underperformance through formalized processes.
  • Assists in prioritizing and managing workflows to meet the needs of the assigned lending/support teams.
  • Provides training/mentorship and guidance related to relationship management, closing a deal, preparation of presentations, risk management, monitoring and tracking, achievement of objectives/goals.
  • Participates and drives process improvement initiatives.
  • Advocates team’s needs to leadership while aligning with broader organizational goals.
  • Highly proficient in key accountabilities of individual contributor role – proven track record, year-over-year success demonstrated, subject matter expert, possess necessary credibility to be successful in a leadership role.
  • May lead or be a key participant with projects, own reporting, and/or by key contact with other areas within the team, LOB, or company.
