About The Position

The position involves supporting the Head of Legal by drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing various legal agreements across business units, including sales, purchasing, service, government subcontractor agreements, and commercial leases. The role includes advising on conflict resolution, legal compliance, and litigation matters, as well as assisting in developing and refining legal forms, processes, and training programs. The ideal candidate will have 0-3 years of legal experience, preferably in-house with a defense manufacturing company, possess a Juris Doctor degree, and be admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. state, with a preference for Wisconsin. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills, with a focus on risk-based decision-making, ethical behavior, and fostering relationships across all levels of management. An eagerness to learn new areas of law and expand skillsets is also essential.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of related legal experience.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Required for candidate to be admitted, active, and in good standing with one U.S. State jurisdiction or to be newly admitted by the start date.
  • Able to apply risk-based thinking while multitasking and working in a very fast-paced environment
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with all levels of management and leaders to influence with or without direct authority
  • Demonstrated ability to earn respect through communication, professionalism, and presence.
  • History of maintaining organized and comprehensive records
  • Eagerness for learning new areas of law and expanding legal and business skillsets
  • Supports a culture of ethical behavior and legal compliance throughout the organization
  • This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • In-house legal experience at a defense manufacturing company preferred.
  • Preferred for candidate to be admitted, active, and in good standing with the State Bar of Wisconsin (or with another state bar and registered, or eligible to register, as in-house counsel with the State Bar of Wisconsin).

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Head of Legal with including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and administering a wide variety of support agreements that impact all areas of FMD’s business units.
  • Reviews, drafts, revises, and advises on sales, purchasing, and service agreements, government subcontractor agreements and FAR/DFAR flow downs, confidentiality and license agreements, and general terms and conditions for multiple business units.
  • Consults and collaborates with FMD’s leaders on conflict and dispute resolution, including potential litigation matters, by identifying, addressing, and escalating issues as they arise.
  • Reviews, drafts, revises, and advises on commercial leases.
  • Assists the Legal Department’s efforts in the preparation, implementation, and refinement of commercial forms, processes, and procedures, and the development and provision of training related to areas of coverage.
