About The Position

This is a newly created leadership role for a senior finance professional who thrives in a fast-moving, evolving environment. As Corporate Accounting Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day corporate accounting function, while providing leadership, direction, and oversight to a small team of accounting administrators. This role is hands-on, but also requires the ability to step back, identify gaps, and drive process improvement. Working closely with the Controller, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and scalability of financial operations, while helping to build stronger structures and controls to support the company’s continued growth.

Requirements

  • CPA designation (or actively pursuing with strong practical experience), is considered a strong asset
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership capacity
  • Proven ownership of full-cycle accounting, including month-end close and transactional oversight
  • Strong experience managing and developing teams
  • Demonstrated ability to build, improve, and enforce accounting processes and internal controls
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward action and accountability

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in oil & gas or heavy civil construction would be considered an asset
  • Experience with job costing accounting
  • Experience supporting audit readiness or external audits
  • Experience working with Explorer Contract Manager (Eclipse) or similar ERP systems

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct leadership and oversight of Corporate Accounting
  • Lead the month-end close process, in partnership with the Controller, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statements
  • Coordinate close timelines and deliverables across all accounting functions
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and period-end reporting
  • Manage the full lifecycle of fixed assets and debt
  • Maintain the integrity of the accounting system, including oversight and governance of the chart of accounts
  • Oversee and review GST, HST, and PST filings
  • Act as a subject matter expert in provincial tax and regulatory requirements, and research and interpret changes across jurisdictions
  • Lead all First Nations partnership invoicing and commission calculations
  • Support and coordinate external year-end processes and act as a key internal contact for auditors and advisors
  • Oversee CRA correspondence and compliance activities, escalating complex or unusual matters as required
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Controller
  • Support audit readiness and working paper preparation
  • Partner with operations teams to resolve transactional issues
  • Identify and implement opportunities to better leverage financial systems, automation, and reporting tools
  • Champion process improvements across the finance function
  • Identify and escalate risks, discrepancies, and control gaps to the Controller with proposed solutions.
