About The Position

Waste Connections is seeking a motivated accounting professional for a corporate role designed to build knowledge of company accounting and financial processes. The position offers development opportunities intended to prepare the employee for future corporate accounting or field controller-level roles. The Corporate Accountant will manage key companywide accounting processes, including fixed assets, payroll, and leases, while developing proficiency in the systems and accounting practices used by company controllers and supporting operating locations.

The role participates in corporate financial close, forecasting, and budgeting; handles balance sheet reconciliations; prepares financial analysis; supports external audits; and assists with new accounting pronouncements and procedures. The position provides exposure to field controller processes and procedures.

Requirements

• BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance.
• At least 2 years of progressive accounting experience with demonstrated growth in responsibilities.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to multitask.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Participate in monthly financial close, forecast, and budget processes for the corporate office.
• Receive training and take ownership of corporate balance sheet reconciliations for general ledger accounts.
• Prepare ad hoc financial analysis to help corporate departments make decisions related to managing forecasts and budgets.
• Assist external auditors by preparing schedules and responding to audit questions.
• Gain exposure to field controller day-to-day processes and procedures.
• Assist with adopting and executing new accounting pronouncements or procedures.
• Manage key companywide accounting processes, including fixed assets, payroll, and leases.
• Develop proficiency in the systems and accounting practices used by company controllers and build skills to support company operating locations.
