What You Will Do Under direct supervision, duties include the process, transport and storage of sample material; and, to perform housekeeping and other general tasks in support of departmental driven functions, projects and programs. As the Core Technician I, you photograph core; perform manual handling and transport of sample material (core, pulps) between processing areas and storage; palletize core; load and unload core boxes; split and/or saw core; and weigh samples. You select geomechanical samples (uniaxial, direct shear); wrap and mark samples; capture geomechanical data and enter it into forms, spreadsheets, and databases. In this role, you prepare samples for analysis using appropriate techniques and perform sample preparation for quality control programs. Support remote field working projects such as mapping, soil sampling, claim staking, and IP surveys. You generate and place bar codes and scan samples for dispatch to the lab. Operate a forklift safely and transport sample material between processing areas and storage. You assist with department administrative functions and processes and perform housekeeping and other general duties as required.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of using a computer
  • Capable of using a measuring tape
  • Ability to follow directions and coordinate work with others
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 75% of the time
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least one (1) year of experience in an area or areas relevant to the assignment preferred
  • Demonstrated high level of attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
  • Experience with SAP, ORAS, and/or CAS
