About The Position

The Skirball Cultural Center is seeking a limited-term Core Project Preparator, with the term extending through June 2027. This role is crucial for a significant project focused on reorganizing the institution's collections storage spaces, coinciding with the development of a major new permanent exhibition on Jewish American culture. The Preparator will report to the Head Preparator and collaborate closely with the Collections Manager and Core Project Registrar. The position involves performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the packing, storage, transportation, and preservation of artifacts and works of art within the Skirball's collection of 30,000 objects. This is a full-time, limited-term position with a compensation of $30.29 per hour.

Requirements

• Strong working knowledge and skills of fabrication and production techniques
• Proficiency in the preparation, installation/deinstallation, and care/handling of valuable objects in a museum or gallery setting
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds
• Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently
• Ability to multi-task and complete projects in a timely manner
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

Responsibilities

• Use museum best-practice methods to handle, move, pack, and install artwork and objects
• Build crates and other transport materials for objects and artwork
• Work with storage company as assigned to move items to offsite storage
• Safely handle and maintain art, artifacts, and ephemera
