About The Position

The Copy Editor I is responsible for executing copyediting for all content enhancements and new product development, correcting punctuation, grammar, style, consistency, and accuracy. This role involves reviewing all names, places, and organizations for correct spelling and ensuring all facts, dates, and statistics are accurate. The Copy Editor I will partner with fellow copyedit team members on designated subproject tasks to successfully meet project milestones and deliverables. They will also exchange constructive feedback within the copyedit team to expand knowledge and apply best practices. Additionally, the role requires utilizing departmental tools and guides to elevate curriculum composition quality and maintain strict adherence to style and formatting standards. The Copy Editor I will share insights and ideas to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the curriculum materials production copyedit phase. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Key relationships include the Copyediting team, Subject Writer team, Curriculum Media team, Content Tech team, and the Assistant Director and Director of Product Development, Curriculum. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, or a related field
  • One (1) year of experience as a copyeditor with responsibilities for technical format & style adherence
  • Working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office products and Google Docs and Sheets
  • Excellent written English, including spelling, grammar, and style
  • Meticulous, detail-oriented approach to work
  • Ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate with writers of varying skill sets
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of copyediting experience
  • Experience with Smartsheets or similar project management software
