About The Position

We are currently looking to fill a Temporary Full-Time opportunity for a Coordinator, Translation Services and In-person Interpretation Services to support Populuation & Public Health - Language Services in Surrey, B.C. This position is available until October 2026. Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families: Reporting to the Director, EDI & LS, the Coordinator, Translation Services and In-person Interpretation Services coordinates the provision of Translation and develops resources and provides leadership coordination of in-person interpreter recruitment and training to meet service needs. Leads quality improvement and evaluation of initiatives designed to improve language services access; provides consultation, guidance, and support to the organization in the use of tools to measure, monitor, and evaluate initiatives designed to improve process for translation services. In collaboration with partners, supports EDI & LS in the development of the vision and evaluation for language services across FH. Acts as Fraser Health point of contact for interpreters; guides staff and contracted interpreters by providing training and resources, responsible for quality control, incident reporting and conducts follow ups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences (Sociology, Psychology, Cultural Studies, Ethics, Languages), Translation & Interpretation, Health Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in language access services, translation coordination, and in-person interpreter scheduling within a complex healthcare or community setting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees written translation services, ensuring high-quality, timely, and culturally appropriate translations.
  • Develops and implements translation priorities and workflows to support critical healthcare communication needs.
  • Coordinates scheduling and dispatch for in-person interpretation services, ensuring timely and appropriate interpreter assignments.
  • Maintains relationships with freelance and contracted in-person interpreters, overseeing quality, training, and adherence to professional standards.
  • Continues to develop fair and effective working relationships with Language Services partners (e.g. translators, non-profit language services partners, etc.) to ensure services are available, accessible and acceptable to staff and patients.
  • Provides guidance and training to healthcare staff on best practices for requesting and working with in-person interpreters and translated materials.
  • Develops and refines procedures for in-person interpretation and translation services, ensuring alignment with industry standards.
  • Monitors service quality and collects feedback to continuously improve the effectiveness of translation and in-person interpreting services.
  • Ensures resource optimization for translation and in-person interpretation services.
  • Collaborates with internal teams (e.g., clinical leadership, patient education and experience, professional practice) to enhance language accessibility across Fraser Health.
  • Reviews FHDS’ translation processes and priorities, including decisions on which types of materials will be prioritized and translated at no cost, and update documents and processes as needed.
  • Receives and processes translation requests, develops and maintains appropriate records of all requests.
  • Participates in EDI & LS department meetings/seminars/ special projects/initiatives and committees as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
