About The Position

The Department of Physics within the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks applications for a Coordinator, Student Recruitment and Training position. The position will support the growth and development of the Applied Sciences Institute for National Security (ASI), located at the SAGE facility in Stead. Specifically, the incumbent will lead recruitment, onboarding, professional development, and training activities for undergraduate and graduate students. This position serves as a key liaison between faculty, researchers, students, university offices, and external partners to build a strong pipeline of talented students prepared to contribute to cutting-edge research programs. The Coordinator will help cultivate an engaging and supportive research environment while promoting student success, workforce development, and career readiness aligned with the institute’s mission areas. The incumbent will develop, maintain and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders to advance grant deliverables and workforce development goals; develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract undergraduate and graduate student researchers; and manage social media accounts and website to highlight student achievements, research experiences, career outcomes and events. The Coordinator will also assist with student mentoring by creating and maintaining a student database to track student participation, certifications and research engagement metrics and to directly mentor and assist undergraduate students with preparing applications for their career path of choice. This position will coordinate hiring, onboarding and orientation for all new student hires; assist as the primary point of contract for student-related institute activities; and coordinate scheduling, logistics and advertisement for institute educational programs and events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR Master’s degree and one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Related Work Experience: Academic affairs, student services or student recruitment, or higher education work experience or related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience mentoring or managing undergraduate student workers.
  • Experience in presenting to large audiences.

Responsibilities
