About The Position

This role involves providing comprehensive support and services to students with disabilities within a university setting. The Coordinator will be responsible for assessing eligibility for services, facilitating accommodations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure students receive the necessary support to succeed academically. The position also involves educating the university community about disability issues and legal responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the requirements of the American with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1974.
  • Experience in working to facilitate accommodation of students with disabilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to resolve academic accommodation and/or disability management issues.
  • Demonstrated administrative and coordinative skills.
  • Proven ability to exercise strong organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of students, faculty, staff, and various individuals, agencies, and organizations outside the University system.
  • Motivated and solution-focused approach toward addressing complex challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Disability Management, Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, or other relevant area.
  • Three to five years related experience.
  • Post-secondary educational administration experience.
  • Cross-cultural or multi-cultural education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information about disability services to current and prospective students, parents, and high school counselors.
  • Adjudicate documentation of disabilities to determine eligibility for services and accommodations.
  • Communicate with registered students regarding their needs and the University's ability to meet them.
  • Work with faculty, staff, and other University personnel to accommodate students with disabilities.
  • Provide or oversee the delivery of accommodations, such as test proctoring.
  • Assist students and university employees in understanding their legal responsibilities and rights.
  • Provide individual assistance to students as necessary.
  • Assist with orientation, advising, and other general office functions.
  • Develop and implement student/faculty/staff in-service training programs regarding disability issues.
  • Refer students to on- and off-campus resources.
  • Maintain recordkeeping systems for resources, documentation, and accountability.
  • Foster a culture of welcoming and belonging.
  • Supervise and evaluate the work performance of work-study students.
  • Perform other duties as required.
